Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at becoming an international star failed. Perry had been signed to two different record companies, but dropped prior to releasing any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. Ur So Gay's title track was a jolly and sly track that received little attention. I Kissed a Girl a straightforward ode expressing sexual curiosity backed with an electro-pop beat that was hardedged made her a larger splash just a few months after. It was not a popular song and critics were critical of the song for promoting relationships between gay men and other charged that it portrayed a racy scene that appealed to male fantasies about sexuality among females. But the mixture of sensuality and polished music contributed to the fact that I Kissed a Girl become a number one hit in multiple countries powering sales for her album One of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold was a success in the United States, and the album's second song Hot N Cold with its sharp tongued bouncy beat also became popular.
